Bangkok is for the group that wants to play courses they have seen on television. Thai Country Club, where Tiger Woods won the 1997 Asian Honda Classic, and Alpine, a Johnnie Walker Classic venue, both take visitors at green fees that would not cover a weekend four-ball at a comparable club in Europe.

Why Bangkok

It also solves the biggest practical problem with a stag itinerary: mornings. Summit Windmill, a Nick Faldo design ten minutes from Suvarnabhumi Airport, is fully floodlit — night golf tees off from about four in the afternoon and costs ฿1,800 against ฿3,500 during the day. For a group that is realistically not making a 7am tee time, that is the whole trip saved.

The catch is traffic. Bangkok traffic is not a joke, and a hotel in the middle of town can be ninety minutes from a course that looks close on a map.

Stay east, near Suvarnabhumi, not on Sukhumvit, if golf is the priority. Most of the good courses are that side, and you will save hours.
Night golf is the Bangkok trump card. Summit Windmill runs floodlit tee times Tuesday to Friday from 4.08pm and weekends from 5.36pm, at half the daytime green fee.

Excluding flights, roughly £700 to £1,400 per head for five nights with three rounds, depending on hotel standard and how many premium courses you play. Twin-sharing and playing value courses keeps it near the bottom of that range. Add ฿400–฿500 per round per man in cash for caddie tips.

How many rounds should we play in Bangkok?

Three over five nights suits most groups. Thai rounds take four and a half to five and a half hours in heat, and they tee off early. Groups who book a round every single day almost always miss one.

What are the dress rules?

Collared shirt, no cargo shorts, soft spikes — enforced at effectively every Thai club. No fancy dress and no stag T-shirts. Thai courses are proper members' clubs and groups do get turned away at the first tee for turning up dressed for a night out.

Can non-golfers come along in Bangkok?

Yes, and it is common — just tell us the split when you enquire so we base the group somewhere that works for everyone. Most courses will also let a non-playing mate ride along in a cart for a fee.
