The honest answer is that doing it yourself is usually cheaper — but not always, and not by as much as you would think. Here is the arithmetic, using real 2026 prices.
Take a common trip: seven nights in Hua Hin, four rounds, four-star hotel, two golfers sharing a twin.

The DIY range is wide because it depends entirely on how well you book. Choose carefully and use agent rates and you will beat the package. Book at the counter in high season, take taxis everywhere, and you will spend more than the package while doing more work.
The hybrid most experienced visitors settle on: book hotel and flights yourself, then use a Thai booking agent for tee times. Agent rates frequently bundle green fee, caddie and cart below the club's own walk-up price, and you keep full control of the itinerary.
Caddie tips. Every operator package we examined excludes gratuities, and independent golfers routinely fail to budget them. At ฿400–500 per round per golfer, a seven-round trip carries roughly ฿2,800 of cash cost that appears in nobody's quote. Bring it in cash — caddies are tipped directly, not through the pro shop.

Booking independently is usually cheaper on paper, because operators add a margin. But packages bundle transfers, guaranteed tee times and on-the-ground support, and their bulk green-fee rates can beat what you would pay walking up. For groups of four or more, or a first trip, the gap narrows to the point where the package often wins.
Typically hotel with breakfast, all green fees, one caddie per golfer, cart, airport transfers, hotel-to-course transfers in a private van, drinking water, a 24-hour hotline, and Thai taxes. Excluded: flights, insurance, visa costs, meals beyond breakfast, drinks and caddie tips.
Yes — most courses take direct bookings by email or phone, and Thai booking agents such as GolfSavers and Club Thailand Card publish rates that often include caddie and cart. The exceptions are private members' clubs like Amata Spring, which do not accept visitor bookings at all.
