Pattaya is the default choice for a golf stag do in Thailand, and for once the obvious answer is the right one. More good courses sit within forty-five minutes of here than anywhere else in the country, the transfer from Bangkok airport is a straight two hours, and the evening needs no planning whatsoever.

Why Pattaya

The golf is genuinely serious — Siam Country Club's Old Course hosts the Honda LPGA Thailand, and Laem Chabang is twenty-seven holes of Jack Nicklaus. But you can also play excellent courses like Khao Kheow and Burapha for well under the national average green fee, which is what keeps a stag budget intact.

The other advantage is density. Everything is close, so nobody spends the week in a minibus, and if a round gets abandoned you have not lost a day of travel with it.

Transfer: roughly two hours from Suvarnabhumi. Book one minibus for the group — cheaper per head than taxis and far less painful at 6am.
Where to stay: central Pattaya puts you walking distance from everything at night; Jomtien is calmer and a bit cheaper, ten minutes down the road. Both are within easy reach of the courses.
Play weekdays. Pattaya is where Bangkok golfers come at weekends, so Saturday and Sunday are dearer, busier and slower.
Night golf at Chee Chan is the get-out if the group is not going to make a morning tee time. Floodlit, and cheaper than the daytime rate.
