Santiburi Samui is a good, honest golf course. It uses the hillside setting really well, giving you a mix of challenging and forgiving holes without overdoing the elevation. The greens were in good shape, and the course overall feels well looked after. It’s a nice place to spend a few hours if you enjoy a round that keeps you thinking. More than your typical resort course: Playing from Blue there are several intimidating tee shots. Fairways are firm and well kept so are the tricky greens, which are faster than they appear (and faster than the practice green which is sub-standard). I was grateful for the knowledgeable caddies giving advice on aim points and green slopes. Last but not least the selection of rental clubs is very good. Unfortunately my experience today of playing Santiburi was most underwhelming. Having looked forward to playing the course since I first visited Koh Samui in November 2005, my whole experience today was rather disappointing.
