Udon Thani hosts the International Horticultural Expo from 1 November 2026 to 14 March 2027, on more than 1,000 rai at the Nong Dae wetland — the first international horticultural expo held on a wetland site. It runs for four and a half months and is expected to bring a large number of international visitors to a part of Thailand most of them have never been to.

For golfers the timing is unusually good. The Expo covers almost exactly the cool season, which is when golf in Thailand is at its best: November to February brings the lowest humidity and the most reliable weather of the year. If you are coming for the Expo, you are arriving in the right months to play.

Isaan is the cheapest region in Thailand for golf. The national average green fee is around ฿2,342 in low season. In the north-east you can play for a third of that — Royal Creek is ฿500 midweek. Green fees here are the lowest of any region we cover.

Planning a round around the Expo

Play early. Even in the cool season it is warm by late morning in the north-east. A first-light tee time leaves the whole afternoon for the Expo.

Book ahead over New Year. Late December and early January are the busiest weeks of the Thai golf calendar, and the Expo will add to it. Midweek is quieter and cheaper everywhere on this list.

Getting there. Udon Thani has its own airport with direct flights from Bangkok in about an hour. Courses are a short drive out; a car or Grab is the practical way to reach any of them.

Caddies are compulsory at effectively every course in Thailand, and the fee is separate from the green fee. Budget ฿300–฿400 plus a tip.
